European Markets hold a strong tradition of providing a festive community experience via live entertainment and quality shopping. Farmers, merchants, chefs, and artists travel to be part of Chesterton European Market, traveling from across Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana to provide our guests with an extraordinary selection of goods and services. Come, enjoy, and spend a day in the Chesterton European Market.

More Than a Farmer’s Market

While similar in nature to a farmer’s market selling vegetables and fruit directly from the farm, European Markets offer much more than just produce. Featuring a unique ambiance of boutique creamery cheeses, meats, oils, clothing, jewelry, artisan bread and pastries, ethnic foods, spices, rare books, and accessories, the Chesterton European Market has earned a reputation of being one of the best. In addition to items for purchase, the market also hosts several live musical performances happening throughout the season. A great activity for all ages, feel free to bring your leashed four-legged family member as well.

A Wide-Range of Vendors

Bringing product not otherwise offered to locals, the Chesterton European Market enhances many opportunities for year-round residents. Averaging over 100 vendors each Saturday they are open, visitors enjoy handmade purses and jewelry, children’s clothes, and staples such as meat, produce, and cheese.

This program is an incentive for visitors of the Chesterton European Market to visit other local retailers in town, furthering the economic development of the community.

Market Day Tips and Tricks

Shopping the European Market is a great way to eat locally while gaining access to a variety of other items not normally found in Chesterton. With so many options to choose from and its different format and layout, it can quickly become overwhelming. Here are just a few tips for making your European Market experience a positive one.

  • Know your seasons. Take time to learn what fruits and vegetables are going to be available when visiting the market. There’s nothing worse than going in hoping for fresh blueberries and leaving disappointed when they aren’t in season.
  • Go early or come late. If looking for the best selection, or hoping to find that one-of-a-kind item you will want to get there early. If hoping to score a great deal, come later in the day when vendors are getting ready to pack up.

Located in Downtown Chesterton, Indiana, the European Market can be found at Third Street and Broadway. Just two miles south of Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes and easily accessible thanks to it’s proximity to the 80/90 Toll Road and Interstate 94. Open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Market’s season runs from the first Saturday in May and goes through the last Saturday of October.
