When Ford first introduced the Escape to consumers in 2000, it soon became a driver favorite. Now, with the 2020 model, Ford is introducing an exciting redesign for the beloved SUV. Let’s take a look at some of the impressive new features that drivers can expect.

1. New Engines and Transmission

With the 2020 model, drivers can expect the Escape to be more powerful than ever before. The conventional version will come equipped with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine capable of putting out 180 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. Upper trim levels will be powered by a 260-horsepower EcoBoost four-cylinder engine capable of producing 260 pound-feet of torque. 

A hybrid model, the first ever in the Escape lineup, will come equipped with a powertrain supplemented by a gasoline engine. An EcoBoost three-cylinder turbo engine will come standard on the base trim level, while upper trim levels will be powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder. An eight-speed automatic transmission will come standard in all trim levels.

The custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires feature a redesigned tread and compound to allow for better traction, improved linear and lateral acceleration times, as well as shorter braking, thanks to the revised antilock brake tuning.

3. Redesigned Interior with Tech Upgrades

The interior of this classic beauty has also been upgraded for the 2019 model. It comes standard with RECARO cloth seats and Dark Slate Miko inserts. The shift knob is race-inspired as well as the flat-bottom steering wheel which comes wrapped in leather and Alcantara and a Cobra logo. There are no rear seats, keeping this model in race-ready form. A new shift indicator light displays on the windshield to keep your eyes on the road for your entire drive. Interior accents are a Shelby-exclusive aluminum applique.
