The first model released in the sixth generation, the 2020 Ford Explorer is completely redesigned and loaded with impressive features inside, outside, and under the hood. With additional cargo space and passenger room, a rear-wheel-drive platform for improved towing and handling, and an assortment of driver assistance and technology features, this mid-size SUV offers something for everyone.

Comfortable and Flexible Seating Options

Third-row seating accommodates two passengers comes standard with the new 2020 Ford Explorer. Base models provide seating for seven with a three-person second-row bench, while higher trims feature second-row captains chairs which provide room for six passengers. An optional hands-free power liftgate and power-folding third-row seating are also available with some trim levels.

The top Platinum trim takes luxury to the extreme with leather upholstery, door panels, and dashboard along with a heated steering wheel, front and back seats.

Impressive New Technology

The new 2020 Ford Explorer features an impressive list of standard technological features including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa integration, an 8.0-inch touch screen with an optional 10.1-inch touch screen available, Qi wireless device charging pad, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, four USB ports, and three 12-volt outlets.

A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster replaces the standard instrument cluster on both the ST and Platinum trims. Completely customizable, drivers can choose a minimalist Calm Screen, displaying essential information only, and reducing driver distractions.

Power and Performance

A turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 generating 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque comes standard with the 2020 Explorer. The Platinum trim features a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine delivering 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The sporty ST trim bumps the power of this engine up to 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Towing Capabilities

A complete redesign of the 2020 Ford Explorer couldn’t be complete without adding some towing power. When fitted with the available towing package, the 2.3-liter, I-4 EcoBoost standard engine has towing capabilities of up to 5,300 pounds. The ST and Platinum trims jump to 5,600 pounds when fitted with the 3.0-liter, V-6 twin-turbo engine. The new Explorer Hybrid is even getting into the towing game, with towing capabilities of up to 5,000 pounds.

Standard Co-Pilot360 Safety Suite

Ford Co-Pilot360 comes with all-new 2020 Ford Explorers. An extensive suite of safety features that includes dynamic brake support, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Additional technological features also include automatic headlamps with automatic high beams, a rearview camera with a built-in lens cleaner, a lane-keeping system, and a blind-spot system with cross-traffic alert.

Perhaps one of the most exciting features is the speed sign recognition. When your cruise control is activated, speed sign recognition sees and reads speed-limit signs along the roadside and automatically adjusts the speed of the Explorer to the posted speed.
