Fuel Up for the Day at One of These Breakfast Restaurants

Breakfast plate that has sausage links, potatoes, over easy eggs. | Chesterton, IN

You have family in town and no one feels like making a huge breakfast. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far in Chesterton to find a fantastic breakfast with a homemade feel. You won’t be disappointed by any of these three local favorites.

Third Coast Spice Cafe

Head to 761 Indian Boundary Road #6 in Chesterton and you’ll find Third Coast Spice Cafe. Open from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m., Third Coast draws on its chef’s wide range of dynamic culinary experiences while also bringing in the local flavor of Northwest Indiana. Third Coast is committed to keeping it local by using in-season produce, Indiana bison, local honey, and other products you’ll only find in Indiana.

Try the Third Coast omelet, with its peppered bacon, caramelized onion, avocado, tomato, and sharp cheddar cheese. Not your style? Try the vegetarian Mediterranean omelet, which has kalamata olive relish, artichoke hearts, caramelized leeks, spinach, and feta cheese. If you don’t want to be restrained by menu options, you can also build your own omelet. Maybe omelets aren’t your style, so try Third Coast Spice’s flapjacks, hashes, or its Sunrise Commuter sandwich.

Round the Clock Restaurant

Head down the street to 1607 South Calumet Road and its Round the Clock restaurant, which is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and on Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Winner of  the Post Tribune’s Neighbors’ Choice Award and The Times‘ Best of the Region, Round the Clock has served the Northwest Indiana region for more than fifty years. Round the Clock is dedicated to its family-run business model and to providing its customers with unbeatable food.

For Round the Clock, a B.L.T. isn’t enough, and you’ll have to try the B.E.L.T., which features bacon, two over-hard eggs, lettuce, and tomato all on toasted sourdough and served with potatoes and fruit. If you’re looking for something a little sweeter, then try pancakes, crepes, or cinnamon French toast bites. Or go classic southern breakfast with the biscuits and sausage gravy.

Northside Diner

Located at 100 North Calumet Road in Chesterton and open from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. is the local favorite Northside Diner. Printed on Northside Diner’s menus is “Where Good Friends Meet to Eat,” and the restaurant certainly lives up to that slogan. An easygoing atmosphere and great food come together to create a dining experience perfect for a breakfast with friends and family.

Check out the “Chicks” section of the menu for dishes revolving around eggs. “A Chick Named Chuck,” for instance, includes two eggs, a choice of potatoes, toast, and chopped steak. Or “Smokey Chicks,” which replaces steak with a spicy link sausage. Don’t feel like eggs? Try Northside’s signature homemade biscuits and gravy, French toast, or chicken and waffles.

If you’ve brought an empty stomach, check out the “Can You Dig It?” section of the menu, where you’ll find items like the Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel, which stacks eggs, steak, and cheese on a bagel, and is served with a choice of potato and hollandaise sauce on the side.

Whether you’re looking for something hearty or light, Chesterton and the surrounding area have plenty of restaurants ready to blow your taste buds. You’ll never want to make breakfast at home again.
